Today's Turkish language hosts thousands of foreign words; mostly from English, French, Farsi, Arabic, Greek and Latin. Without knowing their original meanings, Turkish speakers use these "strange sounding" words every day.

 

Nerdengeliyo.com is an attempt to uncover these words with the help of visuals that allude to their unexpected origins. 

 

For more than a year, I have been covering a word per day with the help of my sister İpek İrde on the visuals. In addition to daily articles, I occasionally produce (and dub) 60 sec. long etymology videos in Instagram* format.

 

Within our first year, we reached 10K followers on Instagram and began to host guest writers, who are experts on the words they write about.
